Spiritual Counseling That Honors Your Values

When you or someone you love is facing a terminal illness, questions of meaning, faith, and purpose often come to the surface. At Saint Michael’s Hospice spiritual counseling is an essential part of our hospice counseling services, helping you find comfort, clarity, and peace of mind in a time of change.

Our chaplains, counselors, and therapists work closely with your family and the rest of your care team to support your spiritual and emotional needs, whatever your beliefs or background. We are here to listen, to respect what matters most to you, and to walk alongside you and your loved ones with compassion and understanding.

Whole-Person Support for You and Your Family

Spiritual concerns are deeply personal. Our team provides a safe, respectful space where you can talk openly about your fears, hopes, questions, and values. Whether your support comes from a faith tradition, a sense of connection to others, or your own life story, we help you draw strength from what is meaningful to you.

Spiritual counseling at Saint Michael’s Hospice is integrated with the rest of your hospice counseling and medical care, so you receive support that considers your physical comfort, emotional well-being, and spiritual needs together. Family members and caregivers are also welcomed and supported as they process their own emotions and prepare for what lies ahead.

You can expect:

  • One-on-one spiritual support tailored to your beliefs and preferences
  • Compassionate presence at the bedside, including during times of distress
  • Support for families and caregivers, including anticipatory grief and bereavement
  • Coordination with your own clergy or faith community if you wish
  • Help honoring important traditions, rituals, and life review

What to Expect From Our Hospice Counseling Team

From the beginning of care, our chaplains, counselors, and therapists work as part of your interdisciplinary team, which may include physicians, registered nurses, LVNs, CNAs, social workers, and bereavement counselors. Your spiritual and emotional support is guided by your individualized plan of care, directed by your own physician and coordinated with Saint Michael’s Hospice physicians.

Spiritual counseling can include quiet conversation, reading or prayer if requested, support during difficult medical decisions, or simply being present during times when words are hard to find. As needs change, your plan of care can be adjusted so that you and your family continue to receive the level and type of hospice counseling that feels right for you.

Respectful Care for Every Belief and Background

Saint Michael’s Hospice is committed to honoring each person’s unique needs, desires, and life story. Our chaplains and counselors are experienced in supporting people from many different faiths, as well as those who do not identify with a specific religion. The focus is always on your values, your wishes, and your comfort.

If you already have a pastor, priest, rabbi, imam, or other spiritual leader, we will work with them as part of your support system. If you do not, our team can help you explore your own sources of meaning and peace, without pressure or judgment.
